Every year, countless families gather at the Lake of the Ozarks to enjoy the water. That makes dock safety paramount. And All Shores Electric, LLC wants to ensure families don't experience tragedy from faulty or outdated electrical systems.
Safety is Keith Bennett and Gail Russell's passion — both have more than 20 years of experience as electricians, and at the Lake, they’ve seen it all. And since focusing on marine electrical, they've optimized dock safety and customization without breaking the bank.
Most rewires just take a few days, so All Shores Electric doesn't leave homeowners in the dark for long.
The dock should be ready whenever you head back to the water, so the All Shores Electric team shared these three tips for dock owners to make sure everything’s safe, especially with the ups-and-downs of winter lake levels.
1. Proper GFCI Protection
Ensure you have a shoreline disconnect at least 42 inches off the standing surface, equipped with a GFCI breaker to protect against electrical shock. It's important to test these breakers regularly using a GFCI tester, available at most hardware stores.
If the breaker fails to trip or reset, call the qualified electricians at All Shores Electric: 573-480-5685
2. Visible Inspections
As you walk your dock, look for any pulled conduits or exposed wires. Ensure all devices are functioning correctly—any non-working device could pose a safety risk.

Any materials used should be rated for dock installation. While some work may look professional, hidden damage from improper weather protection could become a hazard.
3. Grounding & Bonding
Inspect your dock for a dedicated ground rod bonded to the dock frame and shoreline disconnect. A bonding wire should be bolted at all hinge points on the dock, including ramps and boat lifts. Most inspecting jurisdictions now require a ground loop test as well.

The owners feel so strongly about education because they witnessed the aftermath of tragedy. Those involved simply didn't understand the safe way to install electrical over water.
