CAMDEN COUNTY, Mo. — A fire destroyed a home in Climax Springs Tuesday afternoon.
Shortly after 3 p.m., March 31, Camden County 911 dispatched the Northwest Fire Protection District to a residential structure fire on Vining Drive. An engine arrived 11 minutes later and found the back of a single-family home heavily involved in fire conditions.Â
Crews deployed an initial attack line and immediately began suppression efforts. Additional units arrived and began an offensive interior attack, but they withdrew shortly thereafter because of a structural collapse in the back.Â
Firefighters transitioned to a defensive strategy. A multi-layered roof system made extinguishment difficult as crews continued suppression efforts and battled against metal-covered shingles.Â
Tanker operations established a water supply, as there were no nearby hydrants, until the fire boat arrived to assist. The fire was brought under control in approximately 45 minutes.Â
Mutual aid assistance was provided by the Sunrise Beach FPD, Mid-County FPD, Lake Ozark FPD, and the Coffman Bend Fire Association. The Northwest FPD responded with two engines and two tankers, staffed by a total of seven personnel.
There were no reported injuries.
"As Fire Chief, I am extremely proud of the efforts displayed by our personnel on this incident," said NWFPD Chief George Creamer. "Their professionalism, adaptability, and commitment to safety while operating under challenging conditions reflect the highest standards of the fire service and our district."
