CAMDEN COUNTY, Mo. — A garage caught fire near a home early Tuesday morning in Sunrise Beach and displaced the residents.

The Gravois Fire Protection District was dispatched around 2:45 a.m., April 14, to a reported building fire on Purvis Road. Additional information received en route indicated the fire was extending to a nearby residence.

The first unit on scene reported heavy fire conditions from a garage, with multiple exposures threatened. Handlines were quickly deployed and an aggressive attack was initiated.

Tanker shuttle operations were established due to the lack of a hydrant system in the area.

With only three feet between the garage and the residence, firefighters focused on protecting the adjacent home. Crews contained the fire to the building of origin with limited damage to the residence, preventing extension into the main living area.

Two adults and one dog safely escaped. No fire personnel were injured during the incident, and the American Red Cross was contacted for the displaced occupants.

The Missouri State Fire Marshal is conducting the investigation. The cause of the fire remains undetermined at this time.

Those who responded to the incident include: Gravois FPD, Sunrise Beach FPD, Versailles Rural FPD, Lake West Ambulance District, Co-Mo Electric, and the Laurie Police Department.
