LAKE OF THE OZARKS, Mo. — With last week's heat wave now a distant memory, the Lake of the Ozarks could see its first frost this weekend.

According to the National Weather Service, a strong cold front is expected to bring showers and thunderstorms to the Lake area late Thursday afternoon and into Thursday Night. Some severe thunderstorms and localized flooding could be seen with this system, as well as strong wind gusts.

Areas of frost may be possible Saturday morning with low temperatures in the low-mid 30s. Low-lying, sheltered areas of the Ozarks will have the highest risk for frost on Saturday morning.

The most recent data as of publishing shows that on the afternoon of Oct. 9, the Lake of the Ozarks water level was at 658.45 feet with a surface water temperature of 74 degrees. As of Oct. 7, the Truman Lake water level was at 709.8 feet. Bagnell Dam was discharging 2,765.3 SFD. Truman Dam was discharging 5,251.1 SFD.

DAILY FORECAST:

Thursday: 60 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms with new rainfall amounts between 1/4" - 1/2" possible. Mostly cloudy with a high around 77 and S wind 9-11 mph, gusting as high as 24 mph.

Thursday Night: 80 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 3 a.m., then showers with a possible thunderstorm after 3 a.m. with new rainfall amounts between 3/4" - 1" possible. Low near 44 with S wind 9-13 mph becoming NW after midnight.

Friday: 60 percent chance of showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 7 a.m., and then a chance of showers between 7 a.m. - 1 p.m and new precipitation amounts of less than 1/10" expected, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. Cloudy through mid-morning, then gradually clearing with a high around 51 and wind chill values as low 38, with W wind 9-11 mph, gusting as high as 22 mph.

Friday Night: Mostly clear with a low near 34 and W wind 6-9 mph. Areas of frost after 4 p.m. are possible.

Saturday: Sunny with a high around 59. Widespread frost expected, mainly before 8 a.m.
