LAKE OF THE OZARKS, Mo. — High winds will make for dangerous fire conditions today throughout central and southern Missouri, and the National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning as a result.
The NWS says southerly winds will range from 20–30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph. That, combined with low humidity (25 to 35 percent), means fires will be likely to spread quickly. Outdoor burning is not recommended.
Dock owners should also ensure their cables are in good condition and do not have excess slack, as damaged cables or cables with too much slack can break as wind creates tension on the cables by moving the dock in the water.
The Red Flag Warning and associated Wind Advisory expire at 6 p.m. on Thursday.
