The newly opened whisky and cigar bar Ashole (pronounced "ash-hole") has opened its doors in Camdenton. Located right next to the Camdenton Firearms off of Missouri 7, Ashole was the fruition of a long-time dream.
“This was on the bucket list of my husband. He wanted to do it and we decided, ‘What the heck, let's do it!’ So here we are,” said Diane Sordillo, co-owner of Camdenton Firearms and Ashole.
The Sordillos have been in the gun business together for 24 years and started Camdenton Firearms in 2012. According to Diane, Ashole was an opportunity to diversify their business as well as a place for people to gather.
“We just wanted a nice place to come to and comfortable to sit back and have a cigar and a whisky and a scotch. It’s really fun. We’ve already had repeat customers.”
Ashole is open Wednesday through Sunday from 3pm to 10pm. The bar boasts a 18 foot by 16 foot humidor as well as a heated outdoor deck and five TVs for sporting events. They also serve food, including a panini of the week, and smoked drinks, including a smoked old fashioned dubbed the “Asholefashioned.”
The origin of the bar’s unusual name goes back to its cigar bar roots.
“My husband came up with it, ash for cigars and it’s a little hole in the wall kind of thing,” Diane said.
But Sordillo says the name has caused some confusion.
“It’s funny, UPS came one day and my daughter answered and he was like, ‘Do you know anyone named Asshole?’ and she started laughing and was like, ‘Yeah that’d be us.’”
But cigar smoker or not, Sordillo recommends the bar to anyone who’s looking for a place to relax.
“It’s a relaxed atmosphere. If you smoke cigars great, if not that’s fine too. Come get a bite to eat or drink.”
