The Lake House Neighbor Everyone Needs: Lake Guard Keeps An Eye On The Lake Home While You're Gone

If you own a Lake home, you know that disasters can happen. Boat lifts can fail. Pipes can burst. Thieves can break-in. Storms can wreak havoc.

Most homes dotting our lovely Lake of the Ozarks shoreline are vulnerable to problems that could persist, and even worsen, for weeks or months, because the owners don’t live there full-time.

Lake residents know the incredible value of having a good neighbor who pops in to make sure everything is ok when they are away. But not everyone has a such a neighbor. Residents will be excited to know that a new business has been founded by an entrepreneur who has been that good, reliable neighbor for years in his own Lake neighborhood.

Tim Schuett saw the need for this lake-wide service and, lucky for Lake residents, he has responded. This service is provided by his new company - Lake Guard LLC- Home Watch Services. A home watch service is a risk mitigation provider that visits unoccupied properties of seasonal residents who leave their homes for extended periods of time reporting any issues they find, thereby reducing insurance claims and undiscovered damage.

Lake Guard LLC aims to provide the “eyes, ears and nose-on-site” comfort that Lake homeowners are looking for.

Schuett created Lake Guard LLC in October of 2023 after successfully caring for his neighbors’ homes over a six-year period. “I started off just being a good neighbor, basically. I am retired and I wanted to do something for the community that was new and fulfilling. Many of the houses in my own cove are weekend homes,” Tim explained.

Growing up on his father’s farm in Iowa, Tim learned a number of handyman skills as well as a rock-solid work ethic. “From the farm, I learned how to work hard and to do whatever is necessary to get the job done,” Tim noted.

After spending over 30 years in corporate America in manufacturing, supply chain and engineering, specifically with Frigidaire and Lennox HVAC, Tim knows a thing or two about how major home appliances should work, and what it looks like when they fail.

When Tim decided to make his good neighborly efforts into a business, he took the time to get the appropriate credentials. “I want Lake residents to know that I am legit. I am licensed. I have accredited training. I work hard. I am trustworthy. I show up. I will do exactly what I promise to do,” Tim said. Lake Guard LLC is certified by the National Home Watch Association.

In addition to checking on your home when you are away, Lake Guard offers a concierge service so your weekends at the Lake can truly be vacations. Instead of stopping by the grocery store on your way into town, you can order your groceries ahead of time and let Tim pick them up. Tim will stock your fridge and turn on the AC or turn up the heat. You can simply roll in, ready to relax.

If construction or pest control treatments happen at your Lake house when you’re away, Lake Guard offers key-holder services. Lake Guard will provide a credentials check before letting general contractors or pest control technicians into your home. If requested, Lake Guard can even send you pictures of the progress.

After every weekly inspection, Lake Guard sends customers an electronic report. “Residents receive a geocached report showing my location during the inspection. This gives the homeowner peace of mind that I was there, checking on their property,” Schuett remarked.

To become a Lake Guard customer, you only need to give Tim and his team a call or send a message via his website. He will meet you at your property and tailor future inspections to your exact needs as a homeowner. After a walk-through of all of the options that Lake Guard offers, Lake Guard will create a customized service agreement, complete with the scheduled times for upcoming property inspections.
