Mary Kathryn Mintun was born January 30, 1958, in Warrensburg, Missouri, to Charles and Wilma Kwiakowski.  She went to her heavenly home peacefully on August 2, 2019, in the presence of her loving husband, Mark, following a lengthy illness.

Mary spent her youth in various locations, the daughter of a career Air Force father, graduating from Clinton High School in 1976.  She and Mark were married at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church on August 26, 1978. She received her BSN Nursing Degree from Central Missouri State University in 1980 and her Master’s of Nursing from Kansas University a few years later.  She loved nursing and was known to be a compassionate force in the lives of both her pediatric patients and the parents of the children who were very ill. She was involved in the nursing profession for nearly forty years, last working in the NICU at BJC Children’s Hospital in St. Louis, running the heart pump for heart transplants and caring for children following surgery.

Mary loved her family, especially her boys, Joe and Tom. She devoted countless hours taking them to Catholic Religion Classes, sports practices and games and hosting their friends at their home – and most of all, guiding and encouraging them throughout their lives.  Throughout the boys’ high school years, Mary was actively involved in the sports’ booster clubs as an officer and volunteered often in the school store. In recent years, she traveled with Mark while he was working his sales job, assisting him by making their hotel reservations, driving so he could work on his phone while on the road, etc. – she was a tremendous help to him with his job and they enjoyed their evenings exploring whatever city they were in and trying new restaurants.

Beautiful cross stitch pictures adorn the home, which she spent many hours working on.  She also enjoyed making cross stitched gifts throughout the years. She loved learning new things and tackled learning computer skills which she used to do transcription nursing jobs from home once she was unable to do direct nursing due to her health.  She embroidered the family “signature” tablecloth each year which will be treasured with her signature on there probably ten or twelve times. She loved to fry fish for family and friends gatherings and was the best around.

Mary is survived by her husband of forty-one years, Mark Lyman Mintun; sons, Joseph Lyman Mintun and partner Nicole Nash of St. Louis, Missouri and Thomas Mark Mintun of New York, New York; sisters, Sandra Collet, Elizabeth Underwood and Rebecca Cannon and husband Dan; sister-in-law, Peggy Arthur and husband Ron and several nieces and nephews along with a great-niece and great-nephew who all loved her dearly.  She is also survived by a host of friends – she will be missed. Preceding her in death were her parents, Charles and Wilma Kwiatkowski and Mark’s parents, Jean and Wilma Jean Mintun all of Clinton, Missouri.
