Obituary of Kenneth Eugene Birlingmair
Kenneth Eugene Birlingmair, age 68, of Smithville, Missouri, passed away Thursday, October 1, 2020, at his lake home. He was born September 29, 1952, in Des Moines, Iowa, a son of Eugene and Shirley (Phipps) Birlingmair.
On April 21, 1999, in Grand Cayman Island, he was united in marriage to his surviving wife, Amy (Currie) Birlingmair.
Ken was a United States Air Force veteran having served during the Vietnam Era.
He worked for the Federal Aviation Administration for forty-four years until his retirement.
Ken was a member of the Smithville United Methodist Church and was a Ducks Unlimited Diamond Life Sponsor.
He loved being at the lake where he spent time with family and friends boating, fishing and pulling his daughters, granddaughters and their friends tubing. He also enjoyed playing golf every chance he could.
In addition to his wife, Amy, he is survived by his son, Scott Birlingmair of Liberty, Missouri; daughters, Sarah Leonard and husband Charles of St. Charles, Iowa and Mackinsey Birlingmair of Springfield, Missouri; granddaughters, Alexanderia and Shannon Birlingmair and Taylor and Trinity Leonard; his mother, Shirley Birlingmair of Indianola, Iowa; sister, Barbara Rasko and husband Frank of Indianola, Iowa; his previous wife, Jean Birlingmair of Des Moines, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Eugene Birlingmair.
A celebration of Ken’s life will be held Sunday, October 25th, at Walnut Woods State Park Lodge, in West Des Moines, Iowa from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 pm. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Wounded Warrior Project.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction and care of the Kidwell-Garber Laurie/Sunrise Beach Chapel.
