David Atwell Yarger, age 85, of Versailles, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, February 28, 2018, at University of Missouri Health Care in Columbia.
He was born July 13, 1932, in Eldon, Missouri, son of the late Paul Swisher and Virginia Ruth (Atwell) Yarger.
David was a practicing attorney at law, graduating from the University of Missouri School of Law in 1961. He was an officer and navigator in the United States Air Force, stationed at Travis AFB, California, assigned to the Pacific Route. David was the City Attorney for Versailles, Stover, Lake Ozark and Laurie, Missouri. His loves aside from his family included law, the freedom of flying, traveling, navigating and the military. One of his favorite hobbies was visiting his condo in Lakeland, Florida. He also loved golf, though he may not have been the best player on the course. Additionally, he enjoyed deer hunting and attending MU Athletics. Never wanting to retire, he practiced law until the end, as he always dreamed. He did "slow-down" working only four days per week over the last year.
David served his community and belonged to many organizations throughout his life. He was president of the Versailles Lions Club, a charter member of the National Cessna Pilots Association, member of the Missouri Pilots Association, American Legion and VFW, Rolling Hills Country Club and Bramble Ridge Golf Club. In addition, he was a former partner of the Woolsey-Yarger Law Firm in Versailles.
David married the late Barbara Haynes of Stover in 1955 and to this union they were blessed with three children, David P. Yarger, his wife Lauren Yarger, Janice Clark her husband, Don Clark and Jessica Rau and her husband, Alan Rau. To this union he also had the following grandchildren; Sarah Yarger, Betsey Clark, Byron Clark, Brian Yarger and Brock Rau.
David is also survived by his beloved wife, Beverly of Versailles, Missouri. David and Beverly were married in February, 1997. She followed his love of flying by obtaining her own license. They flew to Australia, Canada, New Zealand and Alaska. Of this union, he was blessed with two additional sons, Jeffrey T. Hughes and his wife, Gina Hughes and Jeremy C. Hughes and his wife, Krista Hughes. To this union, he gained the following grandchildren; Hannah Rogers, Bailey Clopton, Allison Rogers, Gabe Rogers, Jenna Hughes, Grant Hughes and Zachary Wessman-Hughes.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, March 3rd, at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles with Pastor Rudy Beard officiating. Graveside services and interment will follow in the Versailles Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Versailles.
