Charles Edward McGee

Charles Edward McGee, age 74, of Versailles, Missouri, passed away Thursday, August 15, 2019 at his home. He was born November 2, 1944 in Kosciusko, Mississippi a son of Clyde Bernard and Empress (Neighbours) McGee.

On July 24, 1982 in Carlsbad, New Mexico, he was united in marriage to Cynthia Louise Marshall. Together they shared the past thirty-seven years of marriage.

Charles graduated from high school in Carlsbad in 1961. He served his country proudly in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. After serving three tours, he was honorably discharged. He worked as an I.T. Administrator where he was affectionately known as “Mr. Wizard”. Charlie and Cindy retired to Versailles, Missouri in 2013. 

He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans. In his spare time, he enjoyed trains, painting and loved making wine…and drinking it.

Survivors include his wife, Cindy McGee of the home; five children, Timothy McGee and wife Mary of Nashville, Tennessee, Kelly Brandwein and husband Paul of Warrenton, Missouri, Evan Maki of Boston, Massachusetts, John Maki and wife Katherine of Newalla, Oklahoma and Matthew McGee of Dallas, Texas; twenty-six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; siblings, Bobby McGee, Mitch McGee and Carol Miles all of Carlsbad, New Mexico. 

He was preceded in death by is parents; a son, Doug Maki and a brother, James McGee.

Services will be held at 12:00 noon, Friday, August 23, 2019 at Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles. Burial with military honors will follow in Versailles Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., Friday at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to Disabled American Veterans.
