Obituary of Albert R. Placke
Albert R. Placke, age 92, of Sunrise Beach, passed away Tuesday, April 6, 2021, at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Jefferson City. He was born October 13, 1928, in Kansas City, Kansas, a son of Albert E. and Pearl (Sanders) Placke.
He was married to Rosemary Loretta (Stiffler) Placke for sixty-six years until her passing on July 28, 2016.
Albert graduated from Wyandotte High School. Following graduation, he played minor league baseball in Kansas. One of his friends once said, “he was the best baseball player I’d ever seen”. His love of baseball led him to be an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. Albert served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged and went to work at Ford Motor Company in Claycomo for many years until his retirement.
Albert loved his family and most importantly, was a loving husband to Rosemary.
He is survived by his daughters, Karen Placke, in the home Al and Rosemary built and loved, and Kathy Hawkins and husband Jim of Lenexa, Kansas; eight grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Edward Placke and a sister, Patricia Dawson.
A celebration of Albert’s life with full military honors will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, April 23rd, at the Kidwell-Garber Laurie/Sunrise Beach Chapel with Paul Hawkins officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m., Friday, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
