CAMDENTON, Mo. — The Lake of the Ozarks community is diminished, as friends and family grieve the sudden loss of Larry Allman.
Larry died on July 9, 2017, surrounded by his wife Marla and their three daughters: Erin, Abby and Tara. He was a Camdenton High School teacher, a driver’s education teacher, a mentor to many students, and active member of Riverview Baptist Church in Osage Beach. He was also an avid cyclist, and on June 29, while biking with friends in the area of Cherokee Road on Horseshoe Bend, Larry had a serious crash. There was no automobile involved, though the exact reason for the crash is currently unclear. The crash reportedly broke Larry’s helmet and caused severe brain injury and swelling.
A Staff for Life helicopter landed at Carl’s Supermarket—an individual familiar with the emergency response confirmed the helicopter did not have trouble finding a place to land. Thunderstorms in the Columbia area prevented responders from taking Larry to University Hospital, so he was flown to Mercy Hospital in Springfield.
Larry spent 11 days at Mercy Hospital, but doctors were ultimately unable to control the swelling in his brain, and his family announced his passing on July 9. Funeral arrangements for Larry Allman are as follows:
