LAKE OF THE OZARKS, Mo. – 224 MPH in one mile. Bill Tomlinson’s My Way smoked the all-time Lake of the Ozarks Shootout record on Sunday, Aug. 25, 2013, with runs of 215 mph and 224 mph to set a new standard of speed on the water.
Tomlinson during his last run Saturday tied the previous all-time record of 209 mph set in 2006 by Dave Callan and John Cosker.
In My Way’s first trip to the Shootout in 2011, Tomlinson won his first Top Gun Trophy tying the new course record of 208 mph set by Dave Scott in 2010. Tomlinson vowed to return in 2012 to eclipse that run, but crashed into a large cruiser wake during the 1,000 Islands Poker Run rendering My Way incapable of racing only weeks before the Shootout.
One year later, after hundreds of thousands of dollars in repairs, Tomlinson made good on his word with a world-class run of 224 mph before thousands of screaming powerboat enthusiasts at the 25th Anniversary of the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout.
The new record is now in the books, another boat racer immortalized. The only question: who’s next?
