The suspect in Sunday's armed robbery at Gerbes Supermarket shot himself during a standoff, police say, and is in serious condition.
On Sunday afternoon, police reported a man had walked into Gerbes, brandished a firearm, and stolen several hundred prescription pills. He then fled in a black pickup truck. According to the Camdenton Police Department, thanks to input from the community, law enforcement was able to identify a suspect. A search warrant was obtained, and the Missouri State Highway Patrol SWAT Team was called to assist in serving the warrant.
Police say the suspect—whose identity has not yet been released—barricaded himself in his house, and "shortly thereafter Officers heard one gunshot." When law enforcement entered the residence, they say they found the man with a gunshot wound to the head, and no one else in the house. He was transported to Lake Regional Hospital with serious injuries. Police say they found a truck at the residence matching the suspect truck's description, and it was seized.
The investigation is ongoing, and LakeExpo anticipates police will provide more information soon: we will update as further details are released.
