MILLER COUNTY, Mo. — The driver of one of the boats in a two-boat collision on June 29 that killed one man and injured five has been charged with Boating While Intoxicated.
Kelly Wise, 62, of Atlantic, Iowa, was driving a 2002 Formula upstream around the 3 Mile Marker when the boat collided with another Formula, driven by 37-year-old Bradley Siebeneck, of Holts Summit, at about 10 p.m. According to the probable cause statement for Wise’s arrest, he saw the other boat approaching from his port (left) side at the last moment, and turned the boat to the starboard (right) in an attempt to avoid the crash. Jason Russell, 39, of Eugene, Mo., was killed in the crash and five people were injured.
Wise reportedly told a MSHP trooper he had drank several beers earlier in the evening, beginning at 5 p.m. A breath test showed Wise’s blood alcohol content was .184 percent, according to the document. The legal limit for driving a boat is .08 percent BAC.
Wise was formally charged with Class B Misdemeanor Boating While Intoxicated on Aug. 26, and released on $1,000 bond.
