Camden County Deputies Seize Meth, Warn of Possible Fentanyl Danger

A drug seizure in Camden County has sparked concern over the potential presence of fentanyl in local drug supplies.

Deputy Dylan Rice and his K9 partner, Shadow, seized three grams of methamphetamine from a county resident Sunday afternoon, March 30. While the amount may seem small, the Camden County Sheriff's Office suspects the batch could be laced with fentanyl—a deadly synthetic opioid increasingly found in illicit drugs.

“Folks, this stuff is in our community, and it is a killer,” the sheriff's office said in a statement.

Fentanyl has been showing up in counterfeit pills and other substances across the country. In 2023, the DEA seized over 60 million fentanyl-laced fake pills and nearly 8,000 pounds of fentanyl powder—enough for more than 377 million lethal doses.

Authorities urge parents to talk to their children about the dangers of accepting pills from friends and the risks of drug use.
