MILLER COUNTY, Mo. — A horrific crash on eastbound Highway 54 near Eldon killed five people on Wednesday evening.
The one-vehicle crash took place on eastbound Highway 54, between Highway 52 and Highway 87, at around 7:15 p.m. The highway was closed for approximately three hours, and was reopened at around 10 p.m. The Missouri State Highway Patrol's Major Crash Investigation Unit was on the scene Wednesday evening.
According to the Patrol’s report, 30-year-old Radiance Wright, of Columbia, Mo., was driving a 2004 Mitsubishi Endeavor SUV westbound when, at around 7:15 p.m., the vehicle went off the left side of the road. The SUV overturned multiple times, the Patrol reported, and Wright along with two children were thrown out of the vehicle. It then traveled into the eastbound lanes and came to rest upright, according to the report.
Killed in the crash were 30-year-old Radiance Wright, 4-year-old Arleone Horton, 3-year-old Patience Horton, infant Byra Brown, and Rondrea Anderson (her age was listed as “unknown” by the Patrol). All were listed as residents of Columbia, Mo. Radiance Wright, Arleone Horton, Byra Brown, and Rondrea Anderson were pronounced dead at the scene. Patience Horton was pronounced dead at Lake Regional Hospital at 10:22 p.m.
The Patrol says none of the children, nor Wright, were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.
