OSAGE BEACH, Mo. — Lake Regional Health System says they have been averaging between 8 – 12 Covid-positive inpatients for the past two weeks.
The hospital has 18 beds in ICU, with 15 primary ventilators and the capacity to ventilate about 25 patients at any given time.
When asked whether ICU constraints were causing Lake Regional to transfer patients to other hospitals, public relations director Jennifer Bethurem said, “We are very busy throughout the facility… ICU beds are not at capacity today (Wednesday, Sept. 23), but census is always fluid.” Bethurem said the decision to transfer a patient could be based on bed or staff availability or the level of care needed for that patient.
She did note an “increase in community testing and the positivity rate during the past 7 days.” The positivity rate for testing was up to 15.4 percent on Tuesday, Sept. 22, which is higher than the state of Missouri for the same time frame.
According to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, Missouri has seen a total of 116,946 Covid-19 cases, with 1,947 deaths attributed to the virus. Of those, 966 have been in the 80+ age range, 516 have been in the 70-79 age range, and 281 have been in the 60-69 age range, as of Wednesday, Sept. 23.
1.2 million Missourians have been tested for Covid-19 by PCR testing, with an overall 8.9 percent positivity rate. Of that 1.2 million, 461,841 have been age 25–49.
