A new way to help local food banks has now come to Lake of the Ozarks. The organization—and its app—is called GiftAMeal, and Andy's Frozen Custard is helping support its expansion into the Lake area and across Missouri.
“They’re bringing us to the area and we’re excited to further expand,” said GiftAMeal CEO and founder Andrew Glantz. “We’re actively looking for more and more restaurants in the area that are interested in working with us to make an impact.”
GiftAMeal was founded in 2015, and the concept is pretty straightforward. When a customer posts a photo of their meal or drink from a participating restaurant in the app, a meal is donated to a food bank. Beyond uploading to the app, any picture of a meal that’s posted on social media through Gift A Meal results in an additional donation. The donations go to Feeding Missouri, which is a coalition of Missouri food banks that covers the entire state.
“It’s completely free to the customer. It’s funded by the restaurant as a mix of marketing and giving back, and involving their customers in a positive experience,” Glantz said.
GiftAMeal was founded by Glantz while he was in college at Washington University, and the organization has only grown since then. GiftAMeal has provided 800,000+ meals, has 45,000+ app users and currently has 290+ restaurant partners in St. Louis, Kansas City and now Lake of the Ozarks. And the organization is making it easy for everyone to help their communities.
“There was a woman who said that she was disabled and couldn’t walk anymore, so she couldn’t get out and volunteer and support the way she used to. But she loves that she can use GiftAMeal and take a photo of her delivery orders in order to make a positive impact in her community,” Glantz said.
