The Lake area has always been a great place to be outdoors. Recent years have seen a proliferation of research about the physical and mental health benefits of contact with the natural world.
In 2015, Lake of the Ozarks Chapter of the Missouri Master Naturalist, School of the Osage faculty, students and parents established an on campus nature trail.
“Our children are natural explorers and the trail gives them opportunities for adventure and learning beyond the classroom and playground,” according to chapter member Ted Windels. “We get help with trail maintenance from high school students under the direction of Shawn Fowler. The trail is a half-mile long and starts at the playground behind the Upper Elementary. Some of it is very rough, which of course, the kids prefer.”
