Lake Area Resource & Education Center

The holidays bring a time of giving and cheer in the lake area. One organization has used the season as a teaching lesson for children who are either homeschooling, or dismissed to home for distance learning. The Lake Area Resource and Education Center will be hosting a series of after school projects aimed at sharing the spirit of giving and doing for others.

Volunteer Carnival - Nov. 5

The first activity of November’s Giving Days will be held at The Key Gathering Place in Camdenton on November 5th, from 3:30–5:30 p.m. with a Volunteer Carnival. The opportunity to give back to the community and pay it forward will have a little learning mixed in with a lot of fun. The Volunteer Carnival will show appreciation to those who help the community everyday, with kids and accompanying adults cleaning up outdoors at The Key facility. The Key Gathering Place has been acting as a host meeting place for the organization, and the Lake Area Resource and Education Center will give back by cleaning up the grounds and keeping it safe and fun for everybody. After the work ends, fun for all will be had inside with carnival games, prizes, and food to celebrate a job well done!  Volunteers, bring your rakes and garden gloves.

Book & Cook Day - Nov. 12

Thursday, Nov. 12 will be Book & Cook Day from 3:30–5:30 p.m. at Public Beach 2 State Park in Osage Beach. Meet at the Hilltop Pavilion and Playground Area. The group will host a warming campfire and book read. Participants will enjoy Story Time around the fireplace and storytime is shared, hot cocoa and recipes for the fire with samples will be given. The event wraps up with s'mores making on the fire.

Gratitude Craft Day - Nov. 19

Thursday, November 19th is Gratitude Craft Day at The Key Gathering Place in Camdenton from 3:30–5:30 p.m. Thanksgiving is the theme for the final event in November. Participants are encouraged to bring a food item to donate to The Key Gathering Place. The Key feeds the community for free at The Serving Table located inside the Gathering Place on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons and evenings. The Key will be set up with craft supplies for kids to create gifts, cards, and mementos to share with the community at this event. The craft stations will give a hands on learning and giving opportunity, with creations and cards donated to the community the week of Thanksgiving.

All activities provided by the Lake Area Resource and Education Center are free of charge, and are open to kids of any school age, along with an accompanying adult. Donations are always welcome. For more info, you can contact the LARC on facebook @Lake Area REC.Education
