National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live. National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community. Furthermore, it provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances.
Millions of neighbors take part in National Night Out across thousands of communities from all fifty states, U.S. territories and military bases worldwide on the first Tuesday in August (Texas celebrates on the first Tuesday in October). Neighborhoods host block parties, festivals, parades, cookouts and various other community events with safety demonstrations, seminars, youth events, visits from emergency personnel, exhibits and much, much more.
This year, Freedom Church is joining forces with the OBPD by providing their "Big Red Bus" for this event. The Big Red Bus is equipped with a sound system, fold out stage, basketball hoop on the back, cotton candy machine, popcorn maker and a snow cone machine.
Besides all of the resources at the event, there will be games, bounce houses, face painting, music, dancing, a donuts on a string eating contest, Home Depot kids’ workshop, rock hunting, prizes every hour including backpack giveaways, among others. To end it all, at 9:15 p.m., we will have a fireworks show. Please see the attached flyer and feel free to share. Admission and activities are free to the public. The Parks and Recreation concession stand will be open for sales.
