The Lake of the Ozarks is increasingly becoming "bear country," as evidenced by several videos taken in the past few days around the Lake.

Two videos shows a black bear swimming in the Lake and near a dock. Another shows it climbing out of a dumpster where it was likely looking for a free lunch. Here are the videos (article continues below):

The bear appears to be young, which could explain its sudden appearance at the Lake. When young bears are kicked off by their mothers in the spring, they will often wander hundreds of miles.

That's why it's so important to be bear-aware at the Lake: the area has a very sparse population of bears, so it's likely that the bears that come here will be younger and more rambunctious than their older, established counterparts. Those adolescents are more likely to explore unorthodox sources of food like bird feeders and garbage... and possibly even pets!
