Just when everyone thought the Wake Effects Team was happy with their Sunday run at 150 mph, they pushed for more. Saturday after a single Shootout run and an exhibition race against Brian Correll's plane in the "halftime show," driver Rusty Rahm and throttleman Jeff Harris, had the Wake Effects boat holding a top speed between 146-148 mph. At the 2017 Shootout the boat pulled in a top speed of 148 mph, but the two wanted to get more out of the 48-foot MTI this year, so they really pushed the machine on Sunday.
From the looks of it, racing a plane is exactly what they needed to get the boat going. On Sunday, after running several passes against Correll's plane, the Wake Effects boat made a 150 mph solo run. Still not enough; or Rahm and Harris just have a thing against round numbers. They took one more a stab at the 2018 Lake of the Ozarks Shootout race course and hit their top speed of the year at 151 mph.
