LAKE OF THE OZARKS, Mo. — Despite rumors to the contrary, the Highway Patrol says they have not determined the cause of the boat crash that sent a powerboat through the roof of a dock on the Lake, on July 3.
The driver of the 2003 Baja, 66-year-old Rick Hansen, of Wilton, Iowa, had been upgraded from serious condition to fair condition at University Hospital, as of Monday, July 8, according to Missouri State Highway Patrol Public Information Officer, Sergeant Scott White.
White said investigators look for possible impairment by drugs or alcohol in situations like these, but stated Hansen had not been arrested or cited for Boating While Intoxicated after the incident. “Officers are looking into any other statutory violations leading up to the crash (navigation marker violations, etc),” he said.
White also said a heart attack was not reported in connection with the crash. “While we have dealt with situations like that before, there was no indication there was a medical incident leading up to the crash,” he said.
The cause of the crash, for now, remains unknown to investigators, he told LakeExpo.com, adding, “Sometimes it’s several things and not just one.”
