LAKE OF THE OZARKS, Mo. — If you see a banged-up cruiser, it might be the one that the Highway Patrol says totaled a boat in the early hours of Sunday, and then just kept going.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol says a 2018 Cobalt was totaled when it was hit at 1:45 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 15. The Cobalt was adrift in the main channel, at around the 8 Mile Marker, according to the report, when it was hit by a 40-foot cruiser. The Cobalt driver, 25-year-old Michael Simons, of Chicago, was able to drive the boat back to his dock, but the Patrol said it was totaled as a result of the crash. Meanwhile, according to the report, the driver of the cruiser left the scene without leaving any contact information.
The cruiser reportedly sustained moderate damage. According to the Patrol, Simons described a large white cruiser with a black or dark blue canopy. The vessel reportedly headed upstream from the 8 Mile Marker. Anyone with information about the incident may call Highway Patrol Troop F at 573-751-1000.
