CAMDEN COUNTY, Mo. — Merlyn Vandervort arrived at the Lake of the Ozarks more than a decade ago, a flashy figure with a mullet haircut in pursuit of a new hobby. He bought a shuttered business and transformed it into the Horny Toad — the largest entertainment venue the summer vacation mecca had ever seen.
