LAKE OF THE OZARKS, Mo. — The owner of a Lake home on Jacobs Hollow Road lost everything by fire on Saturday, including two dogs.Â
The Mid-County Fire Protection District was en-route for a natural cover fire when they were dispatched to a reported residential structure fire around 3:58 p.m. March 2. Mutual aid departments were quickly called to help firefighters at the waterfront home in Roach, on the Niangua Arm of the Lake.Â
The first arriving units found a two-family dwelling 90% involved with fire. The wind was driving the flames from the lakeside of the home. Attacks were initiated on the structure while firefighters began protecting adjacent homes on either side.Â
Embers from the blaze flew across the street due to the high wind, reportedly causing a natural cover fire that extended to Gaynor Hollow Drive.Â
Crews worked for two hours to get the scene under control. This area has no fire hydrants, so several means were utilized to supply water during the incident. Tankers shuttled water while the MCFPD fire engine and a Sunrise Beach FPD fire boat drafted water from the Lake.Â
The home and its contents suffered severe fire damage, resulting in a total loss. Two adjacent structures suffered heat damage. Occupants from all the involved homes were not there at the time, but two pets unfortunately perished from the fire.Â
No firefighters were injured at this incident. They cleared the scene around 8:20 p.m.
The fire is being investigated by the MCFPD Fire Marshal’s Office. The cause of is undetermined at this time, but appears to be accidental in nature.Â
MCFPD responded to the scene with 1 Engine, 4 Tankers, 2 brush trucks, and 1 Mini Pumper. They were also assisted at the scene by units from Osage Beach FPD, Southwest Camden County FPD, Northwest FPD, Sunrise Beach FPD, Gravois FPD, Lake Ozark FPD, Southwest Electric, and Camden County Ambulance District (Mercy).
