ELECTION RESULTS: Nation elects Obama, Missouri chooses McCain, Camden votes for new sheriff

Despite the efforts of voters in Camden, Morgan and Miller counties to elect John McCain by a 2-to-1 margin, the nation spoke louder than Ozark Republicans by electing Barak Obama the 44th President of the United States of America.

Missouri voters, at a near deadlock, chose McCain 49.4%, Obama 49.2%.

Missouri voters elected Jeremiah W. "Jay" Nixon governor, Peter Kinder lieutenant governor, Robin Carnahan secretary of state, Chris Koster attorney general, and Clint Zweifel state treasurer.

In the most dramatic upset of local interest, Dwight D. Franklin defeated long-time Camden County Sheriff John Page. Beverly Thomas easily cruised to victory to retain her position as District 1 Commissioner of Camden County and Thom Gumm edged Guy Winters to continue representing district 2.

In Morgan County, Sheriff Jim Petty was re-elected by a wide margin. Dan Murdock was voted eastern district commissioner and Wayne Kroeschen to represent the western district.

In the City of Lake Ozark, voters beat down by a near 3-to-1 margin an effort by the mayor and aldermen to extend term limits.
